Scooter
Meet Scooter! This friendly, handsome boy is all about having fun and being a social butterfly. He is a German Shorthair Pointer mix with a gorgeous long tail. He is about 1.5 years old, weighs 65 lbs, is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and recently neutered.
We are excited to tell you about this guy! Do you need a reason to smile all day long? Everywhere Scooter goes, people smile and comment how pretty and sweet he is. He has a sparkle in his eye and an infectious kindness about him. And, Scooter has the most important qualities in a canine companion - he LOVES many things…
Scooter loves other dogs (male or female) and playing with them! He is friendly, never pushy and really good about backing off if the other dog does not want to play. We’ve not had him around small dogs but believe he would be fine. We are looking for a home with a medium to large dog who will enjoy playing with him. He has not been tested with cats but seems to have very little prey drive so it could work with the right introduction.

Scooter loves people! He is a snuggle buddy and will want to interact and hang out with you. We’ve not had him around children, and while he is sweet through and through, he is too puppy like at this stage for small kids.

Scooter loves exercise! He is high energy and always ready to go. He is pretty good on leash despite his enthusiasm to be out and about. He is not leash reactive when he sees other dogs but he might tell you he wants to meet them. Scooter would be a wonderful running or hiking partner!

Scooter loves toys, especially the kind that dispense treats! He is easily entertained with toys and enjoys going after balls. It’s fun to watch him so full of joy and amusement with a toy. It’s also nice to see him enjoying naps with his dog friends and snoozing in the sun.

Scooter does not love his crate but does sleep quietly in one at night. He can be left in it for a couple hours with a Kong when his person is gone. He is a professional counter surfer which his foster mom is working on, but we’ve not tested him loose in the house when no one is home, something to work up to. He will do best in a home, at least initially, where people are home most of the time.
This young guy has been through a lot. He was found running with his leash attached but no person, spent ten days in the shelter, three weeks in a wonderful temporary foster home, and is now in a foster home until adopted. So it’s no surprise he can be anxious about change and it takes time to convince him it’s going to be OK. He has shown his insecurity by jumping on or barking at his people for attention - not all the time, he just has moments of worry. He is getting a lot better, and long off leash runs have been very helpful in finding Scooter’s calm. So, love and compassion, regular exercise, and a fenced yard - even if a small one for quick zoomies with his dog friend are all important. He is being trained with an e-collar for recall on off leash runs and is responding really well to tone. He’s kind of amazing!
